Tour Plan
Did you know that “Tara” is the most forested mountain in Serbia and it is also the lungs of the entire region? Discover beautiful canyons, dense forests, lakes, and rivers on the mighty tara mountain, named after the supreme Illyrian god ‘’Tar’’. Your Tara private tour starts at “Ovčarsko Kablarska Klisura”. Driving through the picturesque landscape, you will hear the story of the monasteries located on the slopes of these mountains, which form a group called the “Mala Srpska Sveta Gora”. Few gorges in Serbia are decorated with such trapped meanders or thermal springs like this one. Shrouded in beautiful and mysterious forests, with unforgettable landscapes, it is even more beautiful when its sky is lit by an eagle or the click of a gray falcon. Our first stop is the village of “Kadinjača” where you will see the famous Kadinjača memorial complex dedicated to the worker's battalion who fought in World War Two. We continue through the beautiful city of Bajina Bašta and after a few miles, we make a stop at the famous house on the Drina river. This lovely little house is mounted on a rock in the middle of the river and represents one of the most iconic wooden houses in Serbia. We push further into the heart of Tara mountain, to lake “Perućac”. It is a unique landscape with canyon-shaped narrow cliffs and rock blocks that pierce right through the water. The Lake was created after a dam was built on the Drina river to power the mighty hydroelectric power plant ‘’Bajina Bašta’’. The dam itself is something worth seeing. It is a 91 m high concrete giant built in 1966 and is a great example of the architectural style of former Yugoslavia. As we pass through the cozy little village of Mitrovac, expect your senses to be blown away. This region is adorned with an exceptional ambiance of untouched nature, surrounded by pine forests. Ten kilometers from Mitrovac, we make a stop at lake Zaovine. It is a crystal clear lake that is perfect for relaxing your mind and bringing out the best in you. Also, if you love fishing or swimming, lake Zaovine is the perfect place to do so. Finally, we head up Tara mountain to the viewpoint “Banjska Stena”. This viewpoint is one of the most attractive places in Europe and is one of those things you can’t miss on your Western Serbia tour. You will experience a breathtaking view over lake “Perućac”, Drina canyon, and the Osat region in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
